Two Workshops!

Workshop 1: Ring Confidence for Both Ends of the Leash

Saturday, January 4, 2020 9am-5pm

Not only do we want our dogs to love the ring, we also have to work on OUR ring nerves.

Having a mental game plan will help with your nerves and overall performance.

We will cover ways to build a positive emotional response to entering and playing in the ring and review some tools for managing trial nerves.

Staying positive, re-framing your feelings, being an advocate for your dog and setting goals are a few of the strategies we will cover.

We will also cover how to help our dogs be more resilient by developing their problem solving skills.

Knowing they can assess and recover from novel situations, will build confidence at both ends of the leash!

Full day 8 hours, max 10 working spots, unlimited auditors

Workshop 2: Building Engagement through Obedience Games

Sunday, January 5, 2020 9am-5pm

We all have goals and ambitions and want to do well!! We can start that journey by building a strong emotional foundation when training our dogs.

First and foremost we want a happy, motivated, willing, and engaged dog!!

Teaching skills is the easy part! Being present and staying connected during training sessions can often be the hardest part.

We will cover training approaches and play many games on how to loosen up a bit and drop the formality.

By adding games, increasing the fun factor, and being less predictable, we gain the motivation needed to support the precision work.

By approaching training as games, we build a stronger relationship and transfer reinforcement to the act of playing!

Full day 8 hours, max 10 working spots, unlimited auditors

About Julie

Julie has been involved with dog sports for over 25 years and began teaching in the late 1990s for a small local agility club.  She is the owner of Savvy Dog Sports and a faculty member at Fenzi Dog Sports Academy where she teaches both Nosework and Obedience. As Julie puts it, "I fell in love with dog sports out of my love of teaching and training my Belgian Tervuren Rival. She opened up my world to the wonderful world of dog sports and people who share my same passion."

Starting with Julie's mix breed Dreyfus in flyball, she went on to train and compete in conformation, agility, obedience, herding and tracking with Rival. Rival was her Novice A dog and together they became the first CH OTCH MACH Belgian Tervuren. All those letters mean that they obtained conformation, obedience and agility Championships! They competed and placed in many regional and national events, winning Ultimate Dog (High Combined in Utility and Agility) at the All Star tournament in 2002, along with being the repeat 60 weave pole champs!

Her soon to be retired dog Savvy is also a breed and agility champion. They earned their TDX tracking title in the fall of 2014, intensifying her love for scent sports! In the summer of 2016, they earned their Utility Dog title and the summer of 2017, earned their NW3-Elite title!  Savvy is now an Elite 3 dog working toward her NW Championship. She will be 12 in February.

Julie is also training Drac, a 4 year old Belgian Malinois and Moxie a 1 year old Belgian Tervuren in Nosework, Agility, Obedience and Herding! Drac has been focusing on NW, currently competing in NW3. Moxie recently earned her breed CH and her NW1 titles! They all keep Julie very busy!

One of Julie's favorite things is being versatile team!  She truly believes that participating in multiple sports is enriching to both person and dog and builds on that mutual partnership and trust. She is a consummate learner and energetic instructor, immersing herself in everything dog training!  While teaching agility early in her career, she found how rewarding it was to teach and help others. As Julie says, "The simple truth? People just really love their dogs and enjoy doing activities with them. I love learning new training methods and sharing it with others!"
